LEMS Breakfast Club
Mrs. Paula Costello was the host for the last LEMS Breakfast Club for this year. The book we discussed was “Runt” By Marion Dane Bauer.
“Deep in the Minnesota woods, four normal sized pups—Leader, Sniffer, Runner, and Thinker—are born to a wolf pack.
Then comes one last, very small pup. For him there is no name but Runt. Runt struggles to learn the ways of the wild alongside his brothers and sisters but often makes mistakes, many of them serious. When he feels the displeasure of the other wolves, especially his father, he withdraws more and more.
The way Runt discovers his own worth makes for a uniquely moving tale. As is true with all good animal stories, it reflects our own world and reminds us of what it means to be alive.” From Marion Dane Bauer website
As a special guest David Dowey from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department brought his drug dog “Rocky” for a demonstration. Thanks for sharing Rocky with us, Rocky is a descendant of the Grey Wolf.

The Breakfast Club had a lot of fun traveling to the State House in support of libraries and books. What a great event and we look forward to many more with even bigger crowds in the future.
LEMS Breakfast Club

The LEMS Breakfast Club was treated to a ride in the “Cash Cab” (Discovery Channel Game Show) around the Lugoff-Elgin Middle School Library. Our “Cabbie” was Mrs. Julie Stockman, the students were put out on the street if they got 3 strikes, fortunately for them they did a great job of using their “Moblie Shout Out” and the “Sidewalk Shout Outs”. Thank you to Tim Rauseo, Judy Martin, Trudy Hall and Susan Brimmer for being on the other end of the phone for help.Oh yes, I almost forgot the book we discussed was “The Watson’s go to Birmingham–1963″ by Christopher Paul Curtis

What if the gods of Olympus were alive in the 21st Century? What if they still fell in love with mortals and had children who might become great heroes — like Theseus, Jason and Hercules?
What if you were one of those children?
Such is the discovery that launches twelve-year-old Percy Jackson on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction -Zeus’ Master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him. Most of all, he must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.
